Community Bulletin June 7, 2024

Dear South Shore families,

The news coming out of Garfield High School yesterday was deeply disturbing for all of us. Our hearts and prayers are with the family of the dear young man who was killed and all those involved, as well as others around our neighborhood and city this week who were impacted by gun violence. We must not normalize the tragic theft of life for our young people, ever. Please take time this weekend to hold your loved ones close and remind your children how precious life is. Ensure that any firearms in homes where your children live or visit are unloaded, locked, and stored securely where children and youth cannot access them.

The end of the school year is flying by. Nine more school days and each one is important to our learning goals as a community. Please continue to prioritize on time attendance.

Water bottles! The weather is heating up and we need to keep scholars hydrated. This helps a lot with focus, overall health, and preventing headaches. Please be sure to send a reusable water bottle with your student that is not glass, and that has their name on it.

Technology Device Collection Students should continue to leave devices at school–laptops and ipads. We will be checking these back into the district, along with chargers, on June 17 (ipads) and June 18 (laptops). Devices that are not turned in may result in a significant fine for families. Please be sure your child brings and leaves their device at school if it is not here already.

Double check your child’s enrollment for next year. Use the school assignment look up tool and contact our front office if your address is in district and you didn’t turn in a choice form to change schools, your PK through 7th grade child should still be assigned to South Shore next year. Check The Source or use the School Assignment Lookup Tool
